A glass enclosed stone “chasm” separates the public and private spaces of this home perched in the mountains above Palm Desert, CA. The chasm, defined by 25′ high stone walls splayed outwards from the entry to the view down valley, blurs the distinction between interior and exterior spaces. This sense is further enhanced by a pond at the far edge of the chasm that flows into the home and cascades down to a pool at the Media/Party Room down below. A series of five sixteen foot wide lift-glide doors also serves to open up the home to the outside.
